If You’re An AT&T Customer Your Info May Have Been Hacked
If you’re an AT&T Customer, you could be screwed. According to AT&T, hackers accessed records of calls and texts for nearly all its cellular customers for a six-month period between May 1, 2022 and Oct. 31, 2022.
What Information Has Been Compromised?
According to their statement, AT&T said the compromised data doesn’t include the content of the calls or texts, or personal information such as Social Security numbers, birth dates or other personally identifiable information.
The hack also includes records from Jan. 2, 2023, for a “very small number of customers,” AT&T said.
According to CBS News, The telecom giant said that it learned about the illegal download in April, and that it is working with law enforcement, noting that “at least one person has been apprehended.” While the files don’t include call or text content, AT&T said the data identifies telephone numbers that an AT&T number interacted with during the periods.
“At this time, we do not believe that the data is publicly available,” AT&T said in the statement.
This Huge NJ Lottery Jackpot Is Still Unclaimed
Earlier this week, I sort of considered switching from my carrier to AT&T, thanks to the 2 guys manning the AT&T kiosk at my local big box store.
These 2 well dressed, handsome young guys were a pretty convincing pair of AT&T sales associates. Thankfully, not convincing enough for me to pull the old switcheroo.
No matter how good the deal was that they proposed, it wasn’t enticing enough to sway me to make the switch. I have to say that I am totally happy with my current carrier, and besides, something in my gut told me not to make the switch.
You know the old saying,” Don’t try to fix it if it ain’t broke.”
All telecom companies have some sort of vulnerability to hackers. As customers we’re supposed to trust the companies we choose to do business with. If you’re an AT& T customer, know that you’re in my thoughts.
