Heads up, pot heads. LOL. The state of New Jersey is considering what critics say is a massive increase in the tax on recreational pot. And now, a quick response team has organized a way for interested people to tell the Governor and the state's Cannabis Regulatory Commission how you may feel about it.

What Change Are They Considering?

The tax on recreational marijuana is currently $1.24 per ounce of recreational cannabis sold. Reports are that the regulatory commission is considering an increase to $30 per ounce. That would add an additional $30 to each ounce purchase from one of the legal recreational marijuana dispensaries.

I don't know about you, but I'm not buying the recreational funny stuff in ounces. Since there's about 28 grams in an ounce... at least that's what I remember from college... The tax would go from pennies per gram to about a dollar per gram.

Over at Zen Leaf in Neptune, a 3.5 gram container of Hazy Girl sativa goes for $55. That price would jump to about $59 if this increase goes into effect... if my math is correct.

As you can see in the graphic below, a cannabis trade association is concerned about the effect of such a tax increase on the cannabis industry.

Give 'Em Feedback

While the increase from $1.24 to $30 does represent a giant increase in terms of percentage increase, I'm not buying so much recreational happy flower that a jump from $55 to $60 will wreck my bank account... however if you'd like to send your feedback to the Governor or the Cannabis Regulatory Commission here's the QR code they released.

Scanning the code will open up your cell phone to call a hotline with a message which can connect you to Governor Murphy's office, although when I called I got an, "all agents are busy please call back" message.

The Cannabis Regulators are considering a big increase in the SEEF.
