Shotgun Wildfire Forces Evacuation In Jackson Twp
Jackson firefighters were battling a huge wildfire in Colliers Mills Wildlife Management area yesterday!
This was called a Shotgun Fire by the fire department. The firefighters got on the scene to find flames that were burning six to eight feet high, across 10 to 12 acres, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. Then around 5 pm, the fire was at 75 acres in size and spread to 175 acres by 8 p.m. Wednesday. It was 20% contained, officials said.
It was so dangerous to the point of evacuation of 25 structures, including three horse farms.
Jackson Wildfire And What They Think How It Started
According to reports, this fire was fueled by 15 mph winds that speed up to 25 mph in yesterday’s warm weather. The temperatures got up to almost 80 degrees. With no rain, the ground was really dry which hence why the fire has spread so much, officials said.
Moreover, Stump Tavern Road was closed Wednesday night from Route 571 to Route 528. The fire service has got there with fire engines, bulldozers, and ground crews. A helicopter was also there for observation, all according to the fire company.
Gotts’ Outlook On This
My prayers are with you Jackson and everyone doing their part to contain this blaze, and hope these brave men and women get the fire under control. Please if you light anything make sure you put it out and double-check to make sure it is out before turning your back on it.
