Man Holds Woman At Knifepoint At Aldi Store In Ocean County

I’m always careful when I’m shopping or running errands alone. You must always stay aware of your surroundings. The following incident can happen to anyone if you’re not paying attention. In this case, the victim knew her assailant.
Toms River Police responded to the Aldi grocery store at 86 Route 70 in Toms River at around 7 p.m. this past Sunday, February 25, 2024, when someone reported people arguing in the store’s parking lot. It turns out that an unidentified woman was being kidnapped at knifepoint by a male she was acquainted with.
According to Toms River police, the woman was assaulted and left unconscious at a different location. The woman was treated at a local hospital for the injuries she sustained during the attack.
The alleged assailant was arrested after he kidnapped the woman at knifepoint from the parking lot of the Aldi store in Toms River on Sunday.
21 year old Luis Morenogutierrez has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon Toms River police said on Monday.
According to the press release, Morenogutierrez took off after the incident. He was later located by Englewood police who took him into custody, arrested him and transported him to Toms River.
As of this past Monday, he remains held in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
