Embarrassed Orioles To Reinstate Suspended Announcer (Who Did Nothing Wrong) On Friday
Good morning, Sports fans! Davey Mac here and we’ve got a busy Sports Report for ya this morning! The Jets on TV! ESPN creates a new sportsbook! And more! But first!
We’ve got an update on the story of Baltimore Orioles announcer Kevin Brown who was suspended by the team for simply delivering stats on how the Orioles have struggled against the Tampa Bay Rays in recent years. Seriously. That’s all he said.
Kevin Brown SHOULD NOT have been suspended by the Orioles for this segment. He was doing his job, stating facts and telling the truth. pic.twitter.com/fOL2kQM4TS

The Orioles are sensitive, I guess, and they suspended Brown for giving these stats. As a result…the Orioles organization find themselves in a whirlwind of controversy as tons of MLB announcers, radio hosts, sports commentators, and fans stuck up for Brown against the Orioles and apparently their thin-skinned owner John Angelos. In fact, last night at the game, the fans started chanting “Free Kevin Brown” in order to support their announcer.

Well, sources familiar with the Orioles organization are saying that ownership is embarrassed by the P.R. disaster that they created…and the team will reinstate Brown for the Orioles game on Friday. Meanwhile, Angelos and the Baltimore brass should be ashamed of themselves. You can’t have announcers burying statistics or trying to fool people. Also…the Orioles are in FIRST PLACE! How can Angelos be so sensitive?! Get a grip, Angelos! (For the the detailed story and resulting fallout about this Orioles controversy CLICK THIS LINK). I’m Davey Mac…that’s my two cents!
Let’s start with baseball…the Yankees took down the White Sox…7 to 1. Aaron Judge slugged his 21st home run of the season…Kyle Higashiaoka hit his 7th homer of the year…and Clarke Schmidt pitched well to pick up the win…as the Yankees improve to 59 and 55.
Meanwhile, the Mets lost to the Cubs…3 to 2…as the Mets drop to 51 and 62 in this disappointing season.
The Phillies split a doubleheader with the Nationals yesterday. In Game 1…the Phils won 8 to 4. In Game 2, the Phillies fell to the Nats…5 to 4.
Football. Last night was the season premiere of Hard Knocks: New York Jets on HBO with the Jets front and center. They’ll be the team featured on this excellent series. Bottom line: the Jets are confident that they can finally get another Super Bowl.
College Football. ACC Presidents met yesterday on whether to add Stanford and CAL to their conference. The Big Ten has already brought in USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington as the PAC-12 dissolves. Crazy.
Basketball. Team USA completed its five-day training camp ahead of the FIBA World Cup with a 117-74 thrashing of Puerto Rico recently. New Team USA head coach Steve Kerr says he’s thrilled with the work his team has put in before the tournament begins.
