(Watch Video) Guy Fieri Recreates A BBQ Thanksgiving Sub from A Stop On Diner’s, Drive-Ins, & Dives
This time of year is all about turkey. Whole roasted turkey, turkey breast, turkey legs…turkey 6 million ways.
Turkey isn’t for just Thanksgiving! We eat turkey in a variety of ways all year round.
I love a good turkey sub with sliced Jersey tomatoes, a little bit of shredded lettuce, a hefty spread of mayo, and finished off with salt and pepper on really good New Jersey or Brooklyn Italian bread.
I also love a good Thanksgiving sandwich with both white and dark meat, sausage stuffing, a side of gravy, and a nice sized helping of whole berry cranberry sauce, on a good multi-grain bread with a side of broccoli cheddar soup.
How comforting does that sound?
Guy Fieri has probably eaten thousands of sandwiches in his 16 years on the road filming “Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives.” I would imagine a lot of those sandwiches were some sort of sandwich where turkey was involved.
I found an episode of Triple D where Guy jetted off to a place called, “Gorilla Barbeque.
According to Wikipedia, Gorilla Barbeque, is a barbecue restaurant in Pacifica, California in the San Francisco Bay Area. The restaurant opened in 2006 and is believed to be the first boxcar business in San Mateo County. The restaurant is located on California State Route 1 and only serves take-out style.
Featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-In, and Dives (DDD), Gorilla BBQ offers a unique experience using fresh ingredients and slow cooked meats that melt in your mouth!
Rich Bacchi owns the place. He’s the dude you see on TV with Guy Fieri making a BBQ turkey sub with turkey he smokes with almond wood. Rich adds his own spice rub, Gorilla berry habanero compote, and homemade coleslaw.
The nickname Gorilla was given to Rich by his dad. Rich commented, “I’ve always been a little bigger than normal!” Says Rich. His name, his personality, and his food are all large and in charge!
Rich stopped by Guy Fieri’s outdoor kitchen with ingredients for Guy and his son to recreate this tasty sub.
Here’s the video of Guy recreating Rich’s insanely good-looking turkey sub.
