East Side Dave’s Top 5 Opening Scenes From The Movies!
Hola! Davey Mac of the Morning Rat Race here and I stumbled on an interesting article from the website MovieWeb. They ranked the movies with the best opening scenes and they went with Saving Private Ryan as their number one. Hey, it’s an incredible scene.
But, here’s my issue. They were thinking that the amazing battle with Tom Hanks early on in the movie is the opening scene…but in my opinion…it is not! The opening scene was at the very beginning of the film when the older Private Ryan visited the American cemetery in Normandy. THAT was technically the opening scene! See the evidence below!
So, that means we have room for a fantastic list of our own! Hahahahaha! That’s right! Forget about MovieWeb!! We’re throwing out THEIR list (which also had Jaws and The Godfather rounding out their top three).
Behold! It’s East Side Dave’s Top 5 Opening Scenes From The Movies! And it starts right now!
5.) Scream!!! (Scream, 1996)
Ahhhh! Scream redefined the horror genre and was brilliant from Day One. And the the franchise got it all started with this iconic opening scene with Drew Barrymore.
4.) Rebel Ship and a Star Destroyer (Star Wars, 1977)
An awesome-looking spaceship followed by—what is THAT?! The reveal of a Star Destroyer, Darth Vader, and R2-D2 & C-3PO was INSANE and AMAZING and happened all within the first few seconds of the opening scene of Star Wars!
3.) “We better check.” (Goodfellas, 1990)
Goodfellas opens in legendary style. We see our three, main protagonists driving when an ominous “thump, thump, thump” keeps occurring from the back of the car. The scene feels like a short story from Edgar Allen Poe and is flat-out awesome.
