In case you didn’t know…the New Jersey Sloppy Joe is a unique sandwich with an origin story of its own. According to food lore, Thomas Sweeney, the Mayor of Maplewood, discovered the sandwich while on a trip in Cuba…and he brought it back to Jersey.
Sweeney then took the recipe to Town Hall Deli in South Orange where they recreated the sandwich and left it on the menu. And the Jersey Sloppy Joe was born. Now, what’s the difference between the two sandwiches? Well, let’s look at the tale of the tape!
The Jersey Sloppy Joe is: two types of meat (of your choice) with coleslaw, Swiss cheese and Russian dressing…on thinly sliced Rye bread.
The traditional American Sloppy Joe is: ground beef, onion, green pepper, and ketchup…seasoned with garlic powder and sweetened with brown sugar.
So…which one do YOU prefer? Scroll down to vote in the poll right now! BAM!
