East Side Dave’s Top 5 Radio DJ’s From Movies!
It’s National Radio DJ Day, Rat Rock Nation! A truly magical day in which one honors their favorite on-air personality with praise and compliments! …..Well…..I’m WAITING!!
Fine! Let’s not make this about me…let’s make this about great radio characters from film! So, behold! It’s East Side Dave’s Top 5 Radio DJ’s From Movies! And turn that radio dial way up, baby!
5.) Mister Senor Love Daddy (Samuel L. Jackson) in Do The Right Thing
Sam Jackson really should have considered an actual radio career with how awesome he is at broadcasting except…oh yeah…he’s one of the most successful movie stars of all time and could buy an island so nevermind.
4.) Barry Champlain (Eric Bogosian) in Talk Radio
If you’ve never seen Talk Radio and have any interest in the medium…you gotta check out this Oliver Stone masterpiece immediately. Eric Bogosian gives an absolutely riveting performance as a controversial radio host in Texas in this captivating flick. (Language NSFW)
3.) K-Billy (Stephen Wright) in Reservoir Dogs
Stephen Wright (seen in the picture at the top of the article) is that fantastically dry comedian from Boston with one of the most unique deliveries ever. So it was not a surprise when Quentin Tarantino (who loves putting comics in his movies) used Wright as “K-Billy” from “Super Sounds of the ’70’s” in Tarantino’s 1992 crime classic Reservoir Dogs.
2.) Wolfman Jack (himself) in American Graffiti
On one of the greatest soundtracks in cinema history, Wolfman Jack is the DJ that takes us in and out of early ’60’s rock and pop songs with that totally unforgettable voice. Then, at the end of the movie, he makes an appearance as the wise DJ who tries to give a young Richard Dreyfuss some worldly advice. Awesome!
1.) Adrian Cronauer (Robin Williams) in Good Morning, Vietnam
I always wish that Robin Williams was a real radio host. Like everything else he did…whether it was stand-up, improv, comedy acting, or even dramatic acting…Robin would have been brilliant at the craft. Just look at him in Good Morning, Vietnam…he’s absolutely amazing in this tremendous movie from acclaimed director Barry Levinson. Cheers, Robin!
