Governor Murphy Is Raising Gas Tax, And Charge Fee For Electric Cars July 1st
Governor Murphy is signing a bill to raise the tax on gas. Just like a lot of us we didn’t win the lottery, and wish we did just so we can afford to put gas in our car. The Governor is reported to say that the tax increase will go to the state’s Transportation Trust Fund and is meant to obtain billions of dollars. Governor Murphy was out in Aberdeen and had said, ” America depends on the strength of New Jersey’s transportation system,” If our infrastructure falls behind, our entire economy falls behind, and worst of all, our families would pay the highest price in the forms of costly delays and missed opportunities.”
Governor Murphy Raising Tax And How Much
This new law will go into effect on July 1st, here in New Jersey. Here is what you need to know, over the next 5 years the tax per gallon will go up roughly 2 cents and this will happen annually. The New Jersey tax will affect gas and diesel and will adjust automatically and based on if they hit their goal of 2 billion dollars. This new bill that Governor Murphy did sign, does have a goal of hitting $2.37 billion by July of 2028. Now the electric vehicles on the road will have to pay an extra $250 also starting on July 1st. The yearly fee will be $10 annually until 2028.

Where Is The Money Being Spent:
According to Murphy, ” The funding will cover the cost of maintenance and repairs for everything from roads and highways to bridges and the tunnels, railroads, and runways.” The Governor even said ” Yes even those damn potholes. This new bill will actually help out with the NJ Transit according to reports. This bill that was signed by Governor Murphy was approved by a vote of 49-28, and the Senate by a vote of 24-14.
