An Iconic L.B.I. Eatery Has A New Owner & You May Know Him
An Iconic Long Beach Island, N.J. eatery has changed hands and you may be familiar with the new owner.
I found this exciting news on one of my favorite social media pages. It looks like the iconic Uncle Will’s Pancake House has a new owner, and as sad as it is to see Tom & Margie go, the keys will be given to someone who is no stranger to locals and visitors of L.B.I.
Who’s The New Owner Of This Iconic L.B.I. Eatery?
According to the LBI Foodie’s page, Mark Cohen, co-founder and former owner of The Chicken Or The Egg has acquired Uncle Will’s Pancake House from Tom and Margie Stewart, who have run the place since the 90s.
Mark released this statement on the LBI Foodies page: “We are excited to carry on the great tradition of Uncle Will’s. We are proud to have been on a very short list of caretakers of this iconic LBI eatery. Our guests can expect the same friendly faces, fast service, the same great pancakes, eggs, and everything else that Will’s has become famous for!”
The keys were officially handed to Mark on June 17th. Here’s a quote from Mark that appeared in the Asbury Park Press, “It’s the perfect fit. I didn’t have this specific restaurant in mind when I began the search for my next chapter.” According to the APP article, Mark sold The Chicken or The Egg, aka Chegg, to restaurateur Rob LaScala of Marlton in 2017.
“I looked at a lot of other places,” Cohen added. “I explored the idea of starting from scratch again and doing something unique and creative … [but] I wanted something with limited hours. Something that I could work hard and earn a living, but still have a life.”
Cohen said nothing will change about Uncle Will’s. Mark’s been around L.B.I for several decades, he’s familiar with what customers want. Best of luck and much success, Mark.
Uncle Will’s is open daily from 7am to 1pm. You can find Uncle Will’s Pancake House at 3 S Bay Ave, Beach Haven, NJ 08008
