Here at the Rat we love to be out and about in bars, but the oldest bar here in New Jersey looks like something we need to check out. This place looks like a class trip for adults and a place for some very cool history lessons.

A bunch of my friends who have been there say they have great food to go with your drinks too. I say " Let's take a road trip!"

What is the Oldest Bar In New Jersey Called? Where Can You Find It?

The oldest bar here in Jersey is called "Barnsboro Inn," and is located at 699 Main Street in Sewell. It is open Tuesday-Sunday from 11 a.m, getting you both lunch and dinner. Breakfast is available Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

It is located 30 minutes or less from Vineland and Cherry Hill and welcomes people from all over, and they have outdoor seating! This is especially great for the heat we've been having.

Still rocking as a bar, you can expect an awesome selection of craft beer, cocktails, and wine, including some $5 wine specials. The food selection is pretty great too, there's something for everyone. The burgers are a fan favorite, but you'll also find everything from corn cake poppers to Cajun calamari, pulled pork tacos to filet mignon.

Some Of The History You Will Get On This Bar

This bar started as a log cabin and has been around for over 200 years. It was built by a man named John Budd. By 1776, the building had a new owner, John Barnes. On March 19th of that year, he got Gloucester County Court to license his residence as a tavern.

The bar started to take in boarders, serving as a place to rest, relax, drink, and dine. While it has been updated over the centuries, it still has its original feel.  It has gone by many names over the years, including Spread Eagle and the Crooked Billet Inn.

During the Revolutionary War, it likely served and boarded soldiers, plus Teddy Roosevelt spoke on the grounds when he was campaigning in 1912.

It's an amazing place, Thank you for taking the time to check out this story about the oldest bar in New Jersey and always rocking out with me and 95.9 The Rat. You can get more stories by clicking right HERE. Much LOVE and CHEERS. - Gotts

Gotts is the unofficial mascot of the county. Whenever WRAT is hosting an event, people ask if Gotts will be there. there. Like Bigfoot, many people claim to see him in the area. According to Gotts, he was thrown out of home school in Monroe Township. To keep up with his own legend, Gotts likes writing about wacky local news that happens – such as pepperoni vandals. His favorite movie is Point Break, and is a big lover of Miller Lite. His favorite words to live by are “The windshield is always bigger than the rearview mirror”.
