(WATCH) Jersey Rock Video of the Week: Devon Thompson “So Close”
Just in time for Halloween, Jersey Rock Artist of the Week Devon Thompson released a killer new music video! Boasting high-end production values, a chilling subject matter, and a haunting tune, “So Close” is just the experience you need to push your spooky season vibe into overdrive. It’s a tale of lost romance and lost life, brought to life in a way that would make Dr. Frankenstein proud. Devon Thompson said of the new single:
“‘So Close’ is a nightmarish fairytale about someone who turns on their lover and kills them just because they suddenly thought it would be poetic. A Serial Killer all along, but no one ever knew… It’s a moody, dark, ethereal slow burn that is sure to keep you on your toes. The writing is designed to be a little agonizing, the performance is almost a little unsettling. It all goes with the theme of the song, the murder and the mystery. “
The video was executive produced by Reagan Lopez and produced and Directed by Bianca Cruz . Director of Photography on the project is Austin Baggot. The track itself was co-written by Devon Thompson, James Salter & Matty Alger. Speaking on the video, Devon Thompson said:
“The video has a little bit of a different meaning than the song does. The video is inspired by beetlejuice, only I am the killer that brings my lover to the other side to be together forever. Its theme is “Til Death Never Do Us Part”. It’s a mixture of gothic poetry and non-traditional storytelling. “

We’re proud to premiere “So Close” on Halloween! It’s a day Devon is quite fond of. Speaking of the evening of October 31st, she said:
” I am naturally a “spooky” person, so it’s easy for it to be my favorite holiday. I think what I like most about Halloween is getting to express your interests in whatever it is that you like, and you get to dress up as that. It’s never generally socially accepted to just randomly dress up in costume year round. But, Halloween is a time that I get to express myself and express the things that I am into.”

“So Close” is Reminiscent of Guns N’ Roses’ “Used To Love Her” and the video will remind you and of Tom Petty’s “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” albeit with a much more sinister tone. It’ s a macabre love story that manages to balance light and dark. In that contradiction there is real beauty; especially if you’re into slasher flicks!
