Jersey Rock Band of the Week: The New Black
Rocking The Brighton Bar in Long Branch this Saturday 10/5!
The New Black is a Hard Modern Rock band whose origin dates back to 2001 in Metuchen. That was when singer Danny McDonough and guitar player Gabriel Hurley first began making music together. After graduating from college the duo re-grouped and formed The New Black. The band released their debut EP “Within A Dream,” to much acclaim back in 2008.
Just as The New Black was beginning to gain footing on the musical landscape tragedy thrust a seemingly insurmountable obstacle in their path. In June of 2009 Gabriel Hurley was involved in a terrible car accident that robbed him of his sense of smell and sight. Following several years of recovery and many surgeries, Hurley found his way back to the guitar, using it to aid in his rehabilitation.
Nearly a decade after the accident, The New Black released their debut full-length album “Coming Home.” The lead single “Daybreak” has been featured on the Jersey Rock Weekly Podcast. “Coming Home” is a testament to perseverance. It also rocks hard! The album Features Danny McDonough on vocals, Gabriel Hurley on guitar, Dan Downing on guitar, Eddie Tuberion on bass and Kamran Vaziri on drums.
