Carpenter Breaks Foot!
It’s the Davey Mac Sports Report for Tuesday, August 9th, 2022! Catch up on what you missed yesterday in Sports with the article below!
Let’s start with baseball…where the Yankees broke their five-game losing streak with a 9 to 4 victory over the Mariners last night. Aaron Judge slugged his league-leading 44th home run of the year. And Josh Donaldson had four hits including his 11th homer of the season. One bad thing, however. The Yanks’ Matt Carpenter broke his foot in the game. Don’t know yet how long he’ll be out…whether it’ll be the rest of the season or not. Carpenter has had a resurgent season at age 36…hitting .305 with 15 home runs and 37 RBIs in 128 at-bats for the Yanks.

Meanwhile, the Mets beat the Reds…5 to 1. The Mets’ Chris Bassitt threw eight scoreless innings, while striking out eight, to pick up the win. The Mets’ Starling Marte hit his 12th homer in the game.

Football. Locally…bad break for the Jets. Their first-round draft pick from 2020, Mekhi Becton, may have reinjured his knee. We’ll see what the MRI results say. Becton had to have season-ending surgery in September due to an injured knee.

Nationally…the Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Rodgers use of the hallucinogenic drug ayahuasca during an offseason retreat will not be considered a violation of the NFL’s drug policy. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said yesterday that Rodgers would not be in trouble for his little Jim Morrison-esque trip.
