An early morning Silverton fire on Monday severely damaged a couple of rental units in the Mariners Cove complex, at the intersection of Kettle Creek Road and Green Island Road near the Green Island Community in Toms River.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, however, the damage was substantial to the units affected. If it were not for the bravery and extreme expertise of the Silverton Volunteer Fire Department, the damage could have been much much worse.

As the photos show, the fire gutted the affected areas of the two-story complex. taking the walls down to the studs. Families have been displaced and there are GoFundMe's and other relief aides being set up during this time.

About Mariners Cove

According to their website, Mariners Cove is filled with spacious two-bedroom townhomes that have beautiful water views available from their scenic location on Barnegat Bay. Each townhome has its very own private patio and balcony. Amenities include a fitness center, Bark Park, outdoor circuit training equipment, and 24-hour on-site emergency maintenance.

Before the complex was renovated after Superstorm Sandy in 2012, and renamed Mariners Cove, the complex was well known at the Jersey Shore as Holiday On The Bay, a popular seasonal and year-round apartment complex that was state-of-the-art Barnegat Bay living in the '70s and 80's. Unfortunately, Holiday On The Bay fell into disrepair by the 2000's. After Sandy the whole complex was given a facelift and stands today as the well-maintained Mariners Cove.

Once again, thanks to the quality efforts of the Silverton Fire Department for their quick thinking and fast acting on this fire to stop it from spreading any further, thus saving thousands of dollars in property, and more importantly, countless lives.

More details on this fire as the investigation warrants.
