Grocery Outlet Discount Store Finally Coming To Ocean County
Grocery Outlet Discount Store Finally Coming To Ocean County!
Toms River, get ready to save money, the Grocery Outlet discount retailer is coming to our town.
Where Will Grocery Outlet Be Located?
Bellcrest Plaza on Fischer Blvd in Toms River will house the new discount grocery store in a 17,000 square foot space.
Bellcrest Plaza is home to Dollar Tree and Tardi’s, one of my favorite Italian restaurants. It’s also home to Margos International Cuisine, my doctor’s office in the RWJ Barnabas space, and Chicken Town, owned by musician, Eddie Testa.
History Of Grocery Outlet
According to Wikipedia, Grocery Outlet is an American discount closeout retailer consisting exclusively of supermarket locations that offer deeply discounted, overstocked, and closeout products from name-brand and private-label suppliers. The company has stores in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, and Delaware.
The majority of Grocery Outlet’s stores are independently operated by locally based, married couples. Each store has flexibility in its product offerings to serve local tastes and demand.
James Read founded the company on June 11, 1946, in San Francisco, California. He bought government surplus food products and sold them in previously vacant stores throughout San Francisco. The formal name is Grocery Outlet Bargain Market.
There are a handful of Grocery Outlet stores in New Jersey, the closest one to our area is the Grocery Outlet store on Route 35 in Hazlet.
I’ve been to the Hazlet store, and it took me a minute to get used to it.
It reminds me more of Lidl than Aldi, because they have many unique products from other countries, and some odd products that you’d never find in a regular grocery store like Shoprite.
What Kind Of Food Items Will I Find?
I like that they carry grassfed butter and lots of organic items at fairly decent discounts.
They also carry fresh produce including organic options, as well as a good selection of meats, poultry, and a huge variety of cheeses.
If you have dietary restrictions, you’ll find a nice selection of vegan, keto, sugar free, and gluten free products.
The place is clean and the folks who work there seemed friendly. If you have kids, the snack selections are plentiful and affordable.
I like to take my time when I go food shopping, after all I just traveled 30 miles to feed my family.
I look at expiration dates, ingredients listed on packages, and of course the prices.
I look forward to having a Grocery Outlet store in my town. I also look forward to the revitalization of Bell Crest Plaza, now under new ownership.
If you’re into pickle ball, there’s a pickle ball operator called, “Supreme Courts” opening in the 15,000 square foot space that was home to the Super Foodtown store which closed back in 2010.
No opening dates have been announced for any of the new businesses coming to Bell Crest Plaza, but I’ll keep you posted.
