I recently came across a pizza joint in Monmouth County that deserves some recognition. I haven’t tried this place yet, but I have seen the reviews and the finished products.

I belong to many food sites on social media, and yesterday I joined a new Facebook page called, “The Passion Of Pizza.”

It’s got a little over 17,000 followers made up of people from all over the United States. It’s not just a pizza ratings site, it’s a site where amateur and professional pizza makers show off their pizza creations and other saucy dishes.

The page also showcases opinions from people from all over the country sharing their views on local pizza joints and pizza joints they visit on road trips.

The page’s description reads: Join our heavenly journey through the divine world of pizzas! Brought to you by the Polish Pizza Pope and his pizza congregation!

I’ve been a member for less than 24 hours and I am already diggin’ it.

I came across a review for a place in West Long Branch called, “Serpico’s Pizza.”  I have never heard of them. After a little detective work, I discovered that they are located in the Shoprite shopping center on Highway 36 in West Long Branch.

I used to do my food shopping there when I lived in Monmouth County and I remember the pizza joint used to be called Attilio’s.

The review on the Passion of Pizza page was written by a guy named Brian Puterman.

Brian's Review Of This Monmouth County Pizza Joint

"Just had a great pizza at Serpico’s in West Long Branch NJ. Cost only $16 for a large plain. Highly recommended. Thin no flop on the plain. The sausage and peppers were abundant. The flavor was all around superb. The owners are from Italy (Born and raised) as well as the chef. They’re so committed to pleasing you, the chef brought out our pizza and asked if it was well done enough. Never had that happened in 60 years of eating pizza."

Brian's photo below depicts exactly how I like my pizza. $16 is the average price for a plain pie these days. You may pay $18 at other places or even $20, but if you like the pizza, it’s worth it.

Serpico's Plain Pizza

On the boardwalks of New Jersey, a lot of pizza joints are charging around $37 for a whole plain pie and $5.25 for a plain slice. Talk about highway robbery! Out-of-towners don’t seem to care but the locals do. I’m not paying $37 for a boardwalk pizza pie.

I decided to look around the internet for other reviews of Serpico’s to see what customers are saying about the food at Serpico’s.

In a review written about 2 weeks ago, Dana R. wrote: Hands down one of the best pizzerias around! From the service to the food, you can't get any better then here! They are a family-owned business that treats their customers like they would a friendship! There's so much effort and care into everything they do. Food is made fresh daily and the use quality ingredients! I'll come here over any other place around from here on out!

There are plenty more extremely positive reviews from various sites singing the praises of Serpico’s in West Long Branch.

I think I’ll be visiting them soon.
