California Cops Photoshop Lego Heads In Mug Shots And It’s Hilarious
Here is a fun story out of California that explains why one town is using Lego heads in mug shots. Scroll down, because I seriously LOL’d when I saw them. Here’s what happened: A new law went into effect recently in California that prohibits police departments from releasing pictures of people who are accused of committing non-violent crimes. The law went into effect on January 1st but the news is only making the rounds now because the local towns are just beginning to work through how to deal with it.
Why would they have a law like that? Because, what if the person they arrest for the crime turns out to be innocent? Then they’ve had their innocent face spread around the internet associated with some criminal behavior. These days that means one thing: legal liability. But here’s the rub: The police department still wants to post pictures about their busts because it helps their image of protecting the public and helps people feel safe. It probably also might convince other people to not commit non-violent crime, so it could act as a deterrent.
Here Come The Lego Heads
So. What to do? They want to post the picture, but not the face. They could just blur out the face, but that’s not very fun and wouldn’t get you on the Morning Rat Race’s No Sweat News feature.
Turns out, one small California town has been using photoshop to put Lego heads in mug shots to cover the faces and the results are freakin’ hilarious.
It’s not just that the police department in Murrieta, California photoshopped Lego heads in mug shots on the criminals, it’s also the designs on Lego heads in mug shots that they used. For example, they used a crying dude Lego head on one guy they arrested for shoplifting. They used an angry face Lego head on the body of his accomplice.
You gotta see it. Enjoy!
I mean, come on… THAT’S freakin’ classic. Who ever did the photoshop job got the size and head angle pretty tight on that picture! Have a look at the next one. This Lego headed criminal is sporting a 5 o’clock shadow as he sits cuffed on a bench.
Here’s another post from their Instagram where they explain the whole process and the reason why they are putting Lego heads in mug shots.
“Yeah, that’s the guy. The number one slot, that’s the one who got jammed into my foot as I walked across the living room floor with bare feet. Throw that guy in jail.” – Every parent everywhere, probably
Actually, now that I think about it: Number five kinda looks like yours truly…
