Taking A Risk By Leaving Your Phone At Home On Purpose, It’s A Thing For Gen Z
HANOVER, GERMANY - JULY 15: Young players walk through the city centre of Hanover while holding their smartphones and playing "Pokemon Go" on July 15, 2016 in Hanover, Germany. 1.200 players have participated in the night walk through the city centre until midnight. "Pokemon Go" is a mobile game for smartphones, it uses advanced reality and geo-data to integrate the player in his search for new monsters or opponents within his location. The player now has to walk through the city, instead of spending time in front of a computer.
Leaving your phone at home on purpose for a short time is a new trend among young people who have learned what anyone who walked the earth before the year 2000 knows: It’s a good idea to unplug from the world every now and then. So impressed are Gen Z with this idea of not carrying their cell phone with them at all times that they’ve actually come up with a name for it. To them, it’s called, “Silent Walking”.
So what is Silent Walking?
Silent Walking is going out for a short walk and leaving your phone at home. Pretty simple, right? Going outside into the world without your phone ?! No distractions and no way for people to contact you to interrupt your quality time. No listening to music or podcasts. According to the young woman who invented “Silent Walking” you have to do it for r at least 30 minutes.
“Invented” seems like a big word for something that quite literally everyone who lived in a time without cell phones already knew, doesn’t it?
The idea of leaving your phone at home seems simple, but it’s hard to separate ANYONE from their phones these days, especially Gen Z.
What are the benefits of Silent Walking?
The benefits to “silent walking” include: Heightened senses, including hearing and smelling. People who silently walk say they enjoy mental boosts from clearer thinking and in some areas, it’s also safer, as you’re more aware of your surroundings. In other words, you don’t stare down at your phone while walking directly into heavy traffic.
The woman credited with popularizing this trend says that her boyfriend encouraged her to try it, but she was worried that it wouldn’t be possible due to her anxiety. But instead, it was an incredible experience.
Hmmm, it’s almost as if the constant connectivity to technology is connected to the anxiety to begin with! Like, perhaps the constant stream of notifications from all over the planet is making us feel like we’re spread to thin and we just can’t deal! Could it be that we’re actually burdened by constantly being connected to each other via social networks and text message and instant message and all that jazz? I’m kidding, of course, because OF COURSE IT’S A BURDEN!
Turn that stuff off and go for a walk. Make it local. Get off the grid.
What’s next, Gen Z starts getting off the couch to change the channel on the TV?! Hahahahahaha…

Chow Down On Some Of The Best Fat Sandwiches In New Jersey
Almost as Jersey as Pork Roll, or Taylor Ham if you will, is The Fat Sandwich. Only in the Garden State would we invent such a Frankensandwich.
Origin.
The first Fat Sandwich was created by a local restaurant in New Brunswick in the 1970’s, and called the “Fat Cat”. It was simply a cheeseburger with all the fixings, and a load of french fries piled on top, inside a burger bun. The famous Rutgers University Grease Trucks eventually picked up on this idea and began selling similar items. Simple enough. However, in 1997 it all changed. A Rutgers student named Darrell Butler, after a night of partying, stopped at one of the trucks and asked them to create the Babe Ruth of Fat Sandwiches. Butler had the Grease Truck combine chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, French fries, and marinara sauce in a bun. Thus, The Fat Darrell was born, and things just took off from there.

Furthermore, according to Wikipedia, since the creation of the “Fat Darrell,” dozens of additional Fat Sandwich combinations have been composed. Many combinations of available ingredients have been created, including multiple vegetarian options. Meanwhile, Fat sandwiches have become available in many short-order eateries and pizza places in and around the state. With popularity spreading beyond the region. Moreover, with nationwide media recognition, fat sandwich vendors are popping up on various college campuses around the country.

Fat Sandwiches Today.
Not surprisingly, your local sandwich shop, pizzeria, or even full service deli most likely has Fat Sandwiches on their menu. While not your healthiest option, sometimes it’s just what you need to fight off a nasty hangover, or just quiet those massive hunger pains. Here are some of the more popular Fat Sammies throughout the state of New Jersey. I have to admit some of them make me want to hop in the car and drive to get one right now. While others make me wonder just how drunk their inventor had to be to come up with such a monstrosity!
When Carl is not working at the greatest rock radio station known to mankind; a station known around the globe; a station that has the best music, co-workers, advertisers and most importantly THE BEST F'N LISTENERS you may find me doing any one of the following: Riding or making mountain bike trails. playing with his kids. playing sand volleyball on 5th Ave, cooking amazing food, including on his sweet smoker grill, going to concerts, swimming in the ocean, going to amusement parks with his kids, and other stuff that rocks!
