Juan Soto Wins Home Run Derby
It’s the Davey Mac Sports Report for Tuesday, July 19th, 2022! Catch up on what you missed yesterday on Sports with the article below!
We start with baseball! We had the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby last night. And the Washington Nationals’ excellent outfielder Juan Soto won the contest by outdueling Seattle Mariners’ rookie star Julio Rodriguez in the final round. Soto is interesting because he recently turned down a FIFTEEN-year extension from the Nationals…worth a total of $440 million. This has led to big-time trade rumors and both the Yankees and Mets are reportedly quite interested in Soto. As a Yankees fan, I’d take this guy in a heartbeat.

Now tonight is the All Star Game itself! Many stars playing on both teams. Of course the Yankees have Aaron Judge AND Giancarlo Stanton starting in the outfield. It’s the first time that Yankee team-mates have started the All Star Game since Dave Winfield and Ricky Henderson did it in the ‘80’s. Should be a fun game!

Over to basketball…..where James Harden is saying that he’ll do whatever it takes to win a title with the Philadelphia 76’ers. In a recent interview, Harden said that his instructions to the Philly front office is to, quote, “sign who we needed to sign and give me whatever is left over. This is how bad I want to win. I want to compete for a championship.”

Football. L. A. Rams defensive lineman Bobby Brown has been suspended by the NFL for the first six games of the upcoming season for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. Naughty, naughty.

In other news Jackson State football coach Deion Sanders said the he’ll donate half of his salary to help the school finish fixing their football facility. Deion makes $300,000 a year…so that’s a nice donation of $150,000. Good on Deion.

Golf. This is a weird one. The Saudi Arabian LIV golf tour has just signed revered golf announcer David Feherty. Feherty had been broadcasting golf for NBC and the Golf Channel for some time and is rather popular. It’s a bit weird on Feherty’s end because for now LIV will only be on YouTube.
