Good morning, Sports fans! Davey Mac here with a fresh Sports Report for ya on a Wednesday! Baseball, hockey, and football are all in the news…but first…
…Let’s start with basketball where the 76ers pulled off a shocking win over the Knicks in overtime of Game 5 of their First Round Series…final score…Sixers 112, Knicks 106.
Sixers Stave Off Elimination
While the Knicks’ Jalen Brunson had 40 points…the Sixers’ Tyrese Maxey had 46 points…as Philly now staves off elimination and forces a Game 6. Maxey had a huge four-point play and then a desperation three at the end of regulation that sent the game into OT…and he continued to score from there. Game 6 will take place on Thursday in Philadelphia for what should be an all-time classic game.
In other NBA Postseason scores, the Cavs beat the Magic…104 to 103…as the Cavs now take a 3 games to 2 advantage.
The Bucks defeated the Pacers…115 to 92. The Pacers still lead that series…3 games to 2.
Over to baseball. The Yankees lost to the Orioles last night…4 to 2.
The Mets took down the Cubs…4 to 2…led by a three-run home run from D.J. Stewart.
The Phillies got past the Angels…7 to 5.
Hockey
The Maples Leafs beat the Bruins…2 to 1.
The Avalanche defeated the Jets…6 to 3.
The Predators got past the Canucks…2 to 1.
The Hurricanes took down the Islanders…6 to 3…so the Rangers will now take on Carolina in the next round of the NHL Playoffs.
Football. Despite Tom Brady saying he’d be available to play for the Patriots if an injury were to occur…the new Pats head coach Jerod Mayo says he’d be open to Brady returning as a coach possibly…but not as a player. “I love Tom. The door is always open if he wants to come in here and coach. But as far as going on the field, I don’t know,” said Mayo.
