This Iconic New Jersey Hot Dog Joint Adds Another Honor!

Recently, I wrote an article about where New Jersey locals go for for an excellent Italian hot dog. Italian hot dog lovers are adamant about who makes the most authentic Italian hot dog. If I were to tally the results, it would be a close call between Jimmy Buff’s & Dickie Dees.

The other day, I came across an article on Tap Into Kenilworth revealing the results of northjersey.com’s “Frankfurter March Madness” competition.

I love a good hot dog showdown, and apparently so do thousands of other New Jersey locals. They crowned Jimmy Buff’s with the title of “Favorite North Jersey Hot Dog.”

According to the article, The iconic hot dog joint Jimmy Buff's has a new honor to list among their many accolades. With the results from the northjersey.com competition Frankfurter March Madness, Jimmy Buff's beat JJ's Hot Dogs to earn the title of 'Favorite North New Jersey Hot Dog.'

From the statewide votes on northjersey.com Jimmy Buff's received 50.48% of the votes while JJ's Hot Dogs received 49.52%. It was quite the competition and the team at Jimmy Buff's was thrilled with the outcome.

The following message was recently posted to Jimmy Buff's social media page

"WE did it! Thank you ALL for voting and sharing! We certainly could not have WON this without YOU! Jimmy Buff’s fans are the BEST fans!"

Jimmy Buff’s opened in 1932 on 14th Ave. and 9th St. in Newark, NJ. Founded by James Racioppi, this is where the hotdog with an Italian twist first began.  In the 1920s and 30s everyone had a nickname. Because of Jimmy's ability to bluff at the card games in his basement, he was given the nickname “Bluff”. The translation from Italian to English, became “Buff”.  From then on James Racioppi was known as “Jimmy Buff”.

Watch the video below. Jimmy's grandson tells the story.
