New Puerto Rican Food Destination Lands In Eatontown
One of the finest cuisines in the Western Hemisphere has to be Puerto Rican. Puerto Rican food has a taste of the Caribbean, mixed with Spanish and American influences, that give it some of the most original dishes and out-of-this-world flavor combos imaginable. However, here at the Jersey Shore, there has been a lack of Puerto Rican restaurants. That is, until recently.
Early last year Carmen’s Cocina opened on Atlantic City Boulevard (Route 9), in Beachwood to rave reviews. Now Monmouth County is getting the Puerto Rican love with the opening of Simply Sofrito Puerto Rican Bistro. The brand-new Puerto Rican eatery is located at 15 Main Street (Route 35), in Eatontown.
According to a Facebook post from the owners, they had to overcome many obstacles, like most new restaurants do. They also stress that while they are open, it’s not their official grand opening, and their may be some bumps in the road with the new kitchen staff and wait staff. So the owners ask that everyone has patience over the next few days and weeks.
The full menu will not be available yet. However, most of the items will be. Plus temporarily, the menu can be viewed via a QR code download, until the paper menus are completed. Furthermore, if you are as excited as I am, you can just go to Simply Sofrito’s website, and check out the full menu for yourself right now!
Some menu highlights.
From the Empanadas to the Tostones, Sopas (soups), and authentic PR dishes like Beef Stew, Chicharonnes, and Jerk Chicken, this place looks legit! I’m dying to try the weekend special Mofongo Pizza, or their Plantain Fritters! According to the website, the owners of Simply Sofrito have started this venture with one thing in mind, family tradition! It is important to maintain their culture, and what better way than through food? While much of traditional Puerto Rican food is somewhat unhealthy to eat regularly, Simply Sofrito’s products are all natural, and made with fresh ingredients.
There is absolutely no MSG, and I only use pink Himalayan sea salt, fresh herbs, and spices for flavor. The fresh-made mayo-ketchup uses only cage-free, organic eggs.
