When people think of Asbury Park, the image of Tillie usually comes to mind. The Coney Island-inspired smiling face is synonymous with the city by the sea. Once a fixture on the Palace Amusements, you can find Tillie’s image on t-shirts, coffee mugs, beer glasses, posters, and, of course, above The Wonder Bar. Tillie is world famous, appearing on merch sold as far away as Japan, but did you know that Tillie has a female counterpart?
Tallie is the female face of Asbury Park. Her name, translated from Gaelic, means “princess.” As such, It is only natural that she serve as the mascot for a festival featuring all female-powered acts. Tallie Fest is the brainchild of Bob Makin, a long-time music reporter and organizer of many charitable Rock shows on the Jersey Rock scene. Makin teamed with Brittney Dixon of Brittney On Fire to put the festival together.
Tallie Fest is presented by Brittney On Fire and Makin Waves. It will rock 3 Asbury Park venues with a killer lineup of female-powered bands. Langosta Lounge and The Asbury Park Yacth Club will host evening performances on 11/22 and 11/23. Matinee performances will take place at The Saint on 11/23 and 11/24. Tickets for The Saint shows are $10 for 21 + and $15 for 18 to 20 year olds. Half of the proceeds from ticket sales will benefit The Asbury Park Women’s Convention. Admission to the Lanosta Lounge and Asbury Park Yacht Club shows are free. 50/50 raffles and silent auctions will benefit The Asbury Park Womens Convention and a canned food drive will benefit Food For Thought.
