Man Attends His Suspended License Court Hearing on Zoom While Driving
Today’s No Sweat News gets all technical from a legal stand point, so you may have to bear with me for a moment but the scenario is clear: this man had a suspended license court hearing via zoom and he dialed in while driving.
Hey, I get it man. We are all busy. We’ve all got things to do and places to go. But, even with the smallest amount of planning, this guy could have gotten away with this. But, instead he’s looking at actual jail time. Let’s go to the video tape:
60 Second Listen: Carve Your Initials Into A Tree And They Don’t Grow Higher As The Tree Grows
So, you’ve got a suspended drivers license. You have a court case to talk to a judge about getting your drivers license back. The court case is on zoom. There’s basically one place you could take this zoom meeting that will cause a problem and that one place is behind the wheel of a car.
Instead of taking this suspended license court hearing via zoom while actually driving there’s any number of places that this guy could have done his zoom from:
- Maybe park the car and step outside of the car.
- Perhaps you could turn the camera off?
- Maybe you could leave for your doctors office early and take the zoom from the passenger seat?
- Perhaps you could be seen anywhere on the planet other than behind a steering wheel?
You gotta love the public defender on the video. That poor woman knows what’s up right when the defendant comes on the screen. She asks for an adjournment but the judge has already seen what this idiot had done and tells everyone that he’s got to turn himself in.
The honorable J. Cedric Simspon in Washtenaw County deserves a medal for his performance on this video.
“OK, so maybe I don’t understand something.” The judge tries to quantify the idiocy he is witnessing. “This is a driving license suspended?” “That is correct your honor.” “And he was just driving. Annnnd, he doesn’t have a license.”
Looks around incredulously…
