Yes, the calendar turns to February next week. Meanwhile, die hard baseball fans rejoice as the reporting of Major League pitchers and catchers to Spring Training is not too far off. Here in New Jersey we have more than our share of fantastic Minor League Baseball. All teams have exciting games, and somewhat whacky promotions during the season. However, one of the more popular Minor League squads in the state, have come up with a season long promotion that is not only original, it's a classic!

The Patriots Will Become The Diners!

The Somerset Patriots Minor League Baseball Team will gain an alter ego for select games this season, when they roll out their new uniforms and persona as The Jersey Diners! According to a press release, on Tuesday morning, the Somerset Patriots visited a New Jersey diner to announce that they're serving up a new alternate identity as The Jersey Diners.  Furthermore, the press release went on to say, the central New Jersey-based Patriots have been the Yankees' Double-A affiliate since 2021. Interestingly, they are located in the middle of a gleaming, pre-fabricated and neon-drenched culinary wonderland. The idea to create a Jersey Diners alternate identity.  The Patriots will assume this identity for three home games this coming season. The idea came about following a larger brainstorm regarding Garden State-based food monikers, including pizza.

They almost called themselves the Greasy Spoons!

The name the Greasy Spoons was at one point considered as a possible name. However, it was ultimately decided to keep it simple and celebratory. The Jersey Diners wordmark is spelled out in what the team describes as "pink poodle" neon. It is situated within a "stainless silver" approximation of one of the state's classic boxcar-style diners. The logo on the cap is a smiling cup of coffee, decked out in the bow tie and paper hat regalia of a diner employee.

The Jersey Diners logos were designed by Ryan Foose of Fooser Studios. Moreover, they are complemented by a variety of secondary marks. These include a coffee pot embossed with an stylized "J" and "d" (for Jersey Diners). A stack of pancakes topped with a baseball-shaped slab of butter. Plus, a "State and Eggs" mark featuring a Jersey-shaped cut of breakfast sirloin. The "Happy Waitress" logo, meanwhile, is named after a Jersey diner staple. It's a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and tomato! Furthermore, the Happy Waitress will be among some of the ballpark's "blue plate specials". These will only be available when the Patriots play as the Diners. There will also be the legendary gravy and cheese-topped gut-buster known as Disco Fries.

The Patriots will make their Jersey Diners debut at TD Bank Ballpark in short order, hosting the Hartford Yard Goats on June 8.

Jim Harbaugh Returning To NFL

Good morning, Sports fans!  It's Davey Mac here and we've got a nice and juicy Sports Report for ya!  But we're starting it off with breaking news out of the NFL!

Jim Harbaugh is headed back to the NFL.  After winning the College Football National Championship as head coach of Michigan…Harbaugh will return to the pros as he becomes the L.A. Chargers new head coach.  Harbaugh previously coached the San Francisco 49’ers where he was 44-19-1, won the NFL’s Coach of the Year, and led the Niners to an appearance at the Big Game.  Huge deal for the Chargers.

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA - DECEMBER 04: Head coach Jim Harbaugh of the Michigan Wolverines celebrates with the trophy after the Michigan Wolverines defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes 42-3 to win the Big Ten Championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium on December 04, 2021 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Of course, Jim's brother is the Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh...who won a ring when his Ravens beat Jim's 49'ers in the Super Bowl in what was a tremendous game.  It still is crazy to me how successful at coaching these two brothers are.  They are the only brother coaching combination to win a title in the NFL and Division 1 college football.  Jim just won it all with the Wolverines.  Meanwhile, Jon has his Ravens in the AFC Championship where they will take on Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on Sunday.  Crazy.

NEW ORLEANS, LA - FEBRUARY 03: Head coach John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens shakes hands with his brother head coach Jim Harbaugh of the San Francisco 49ers after winning Super Bowl XLVII at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on February 3, 2013 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Ravens defeated the 49ers 34-31.

All in all...I think this is a great hire for the Chargers.  Harbaugh enjoys the West Coast...he not only coached the 49'ers...but he also coached Stanford (with great success) and even played with the Chargers in 1999 and 2000 (when they were still located in San Diego).  Smart move by L.A.  I'm Davey Mac...now on to the rest of the Scoreboard!

NBA Matchups For Tonight

Over to basketball…the Knicks, Nets, and 76’ers were all off yesterday.  Tonight the Knicks take on the Nuggets in Madison Square Garden.  The Knicks are on a four-game win streak right now and are 10 games over .500.

The Nets go against the Timberwolves at the Barclays Center.

The 76’ers play the Pacers in Indiana.  The Sixers’ Joel Embiid is coming off his 70-point performance.

Staying with the NBA…despite being 2nd in the East and having a 31 and 13 record…the Milwaukee Bucks fired head coach Adrian Griffin and have hired Doc Rivers to be their new coach.  Rivers was in the ESPN booth.  He won an NBA title as coach of the Celtics.
