A New Hobby Shop Is Coming To Brick, NJ Just In Time For The Holidays
Exciting news for kids of all ages in Brick, New Jersey! There is a new hobby shop opening in town. In fact, it’s simply called The Hobby Shop.
The Hobby Shop is having it’s grand opening this weekend in the Laurel Square Shopping Plaza at 1930 Route 88 in Brick.
A little history of the great American Hobby Shop…
Hobby shops, or hobby stores as they are sometimes called, came to great prominence in America during the 20th century. Furthermore, according to Wikipedia, there are 4 basic types of items sold at hobby shops, that local hobbyists seek.
Firstly, classical hobby stores specialize in modelling and craft supplies.
Specialty magazines for model airplanes (military craft, private airplanes and airliners).
Also, model trains.
Locomotives, rolling stock, track, power packs and accessories, ship models, house and building models. Moreover, some hobby shops sell R/C cars, pinewood derby kits, boats, and model or remote control planes.
Next are collectables.
From dolls, and action figures, to coins and stamps. Of course more recently Pokémon cards and the like have become popular collectables for both children and adults. A smart hobby shop owner knows this and has a vast array of cards.
There are also Gaming Hobby Shops.
These may sell jigsaw puzzles, card and board games as well as roll playing games like Dungeons and Dragons. Such stores sometimes may also contain community space for hobbyists (gamers) to mingle and play games. In recent years, board and card game hobby shops have often become cafes as well.
Lastly, computer hobby shops.
These stores have traditionally sold computers, related network equipment, and services. More often than not, they are selling training in software like Adobe Photo Shop, Autodesk 3ds, web design and other creative software pursuits.
As technology continues to evolve, the post “dot com” computer hobby shops have transformed these equipment and services to hands-on training environments where people gather and learn from one another. This is because several people who work in technology also have it as a hobby.
