Have You Had Your Fix Of Crabby Dick’s?
I was perusing one of my favorite food pages on Facebook and came across a photo of a sign posted by Melissa C. from a place in Delaware called “Crabby Dicks.”
I’ve been to Florida on several occasions and have seen lots of restaurants whose names are sexual in nature and/or have double meanings. There used to be a restaurant in Key West, Florida called “Crabby Dicks.”
Then there’s Dirty Dick’s in Panama City, Florida, with a couple of locations in North Carolina. Their tagline is: “I Got My Crabs From Dirty Dick’s.”
These names are fun and only people with an intact healthy sense of humor would respond with a hearty laugh, or at least a giggle. Let’s face it, these restaurant’s names are funny.
It’s Marketing 101, naming your establishment something funny, catchy, and most of all, memorable, which is what some business owners aim for.
I came across a list of names of businesses across America in a Reddit thread that had me either scratching my head or laughing my ass off.
Here are a few instances: There’s a restaurant in Champaign, Illinois called, “The Himalayan Chimney.”
If you look that up in the Urban Dictionary, you will either gag or laugh as the term reveals the result of a non-traditional sexual act. You can read about it here.
There are a few towns across the United States with establishments called, “The Muddy Rudder”, you can look it up yourself if you’re not already familiar with the term.
Then there’s “The Old Dutch Treat”, “The Old King Clancy”, and The Rusty Scupper”, a place that once existed in West Orange, New Jersey. & Princeton, New Jersey.
There is a Rusty Scupper open in Baltimore, should you seek out a place to grab a bite and a beer on your next road trip to Camden Yards next baseball season.
The Velvet Taco is a real taco joint that you can visit in Texas, Georgia, and Illinois.
Michigan has a frozen yogurt place called, “The Pump House.” A subscriber mentioned going there and finding a place filled with little kids.
My favorite name comes from a place in Missouri, called “Big Dick’s Halfway Inn.” On your next road trip through Missouri, head to the famous bar at the Lake of the Ozarks. They’re known by the locals as “The Home of the Minnow Shot.” The address is 1038 Cup Tree Rd, Gravois Mills, MO 65037.
Big Dick has a big story of how it all began, and you can read about it right here.
I’m hoping one day I can tour the country and visit some of these places. The photos I take will speak more than a thousand words.
