How To Time The Peak Of Today’s Eclipse To The End Of “Dark Side Of The Moon”

Everyone in North America seems to have eclipse fever! But we’ve stumbled upon a cool answer to a question while thinking about the eclipse. Seeing how the eclipse is a visual event here is the question. What music would best enhance the viewing of today’s eclipse? The answer we came up with is Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon”. For fans, it’s Dark Side of the Eclipse!
Even here on the Jersey shore people are losing what’s left of their minds to figure out how to view the eclipse, where the best place to view the eclipse is and more. There’s even an “Eclipse Watch Party” at the Gateway National Park at Sandy Hook.
But wouldn’t it be cool to time out the ending of Dark Side of the Moon to the peak of the eclipse? That’s how you’d create the “Dark Side of the Eclipse”.
Of course, the Jersey shore is not in the path of totality, we’ll just get a partial eclipse. But a partial eclipse is still is cool. In our area, about 88% of the sun will be blocked by the moon (according to this eclipse predictor at USA Today).
As you probably recall. Dark Side ends with that beautiful crescendo of music and lyrics that ties the whole album together.

But the sun is eclipsed by the moon
It would be pretty sweet to time it so that the peak of the eclipse hits in time with that last line. You’ll be half way through the eclipse when the album wraps up.
How To Create “Dark Side of the Eclipse”
In order to get that last line to hit at the peek of the eclipse, it’s a little tricky. The peak of the eclipse (when the most of the sun will be blocked by the moon) will be at around 3:25pm on the Jersey shore. Plus a minute or minus a minute depending on where you are. That line, “sun is eclipsed by the moon” plays at about a minute and 15 seconds from the end of the album which times out at 42 minutes and 53 seconds.
That means you’d want to start the CD at 2:41pm to get that crescendo and lyric to just about coincide exactly with the peak of the eclipse.
