CRASHED: Atlantic City Air Show Canceled
A real bummer of a news announcements coming out of the Jersey Shore this week as the headline, “Atlantic City Air Show Canceled” spread like crazy around the area. The air show has been a family favorite and gigantic draw for Atlantic City’s economy but the event has been canceled according to organizers.
Why Was The Atlantic City Air Show Canceled?
According to event organizers, the event was canceled after one of the headline air performers pulled out of the event, leaving it with a lack luster talent line up.
“We regret to announce the cancellation of the 2024 Visit Atlantic City Airshow due to a major act withdrawing from the Airshow,”
-Greater Atlantic City Chamber and the South Jersey Transportation Authority.
The organizers did not, however, identify which performers caused the issue.
Troubled Air Show
The AC Airshow was troubled with insecure financing this year. The show was seemingly saved when it was announced that new funding was to be supplied by the South Jersey Transportation Authority, funded by the State of New Jersey.
There’s a few conflicting story lines in various media reports. One report says that, indeed funding dried up. Another report blames the cancelation on the Air Force Thunderbirds. The famous Thunderbirds are one of the biggest draws for the air show fan community. According to this particular source, the Thunderbirds no longer accept offers to do air shows during the weekday, preferring to exclusively book weekend shows. The AC Airshow has always been a mid-week air show.
AC Air Show, Our Loss
The Atlantic City Air Show being cancelled is a big loss to the city of Atlantic City and to air show fans. Hundreds of thousands of people attended the show every year bringing in huge dollars to the local restaurants, casinos and shops. I always thought that the best time to check out the AC Air Show was the practice day. It was less crowded on practice day but you still saw the full show.
The future of the Atlantic City Air Show is certainly troubled. New Jersey air show enthusiasts will have to look to the next Power In The Pines air show at the joint base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in 2025.
