Turning A NYC Puddle Into A Goldfish Bowl
Seriously odd story coming out of New York City. See the video below because, I didn’t believe it either, dude. But, this is how you go about turning a NYC puddle into a goldfish bowl. A neighborhood in Bed-Stuy has rallied around a leaky fire hydrant that created a puddle that someone turned into a goldfish bowl. People have been travelling from all around the area to see the “fish in the Bed-Stuy pond”.
The problem is that the city isn’t down with the whole thing and they’ve tried to shut the puddle down… But the locals keep setting it back up.
How The Puddle Started
It all started when a fire hydrant in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn developed a leak. It dripped enough water to create a small puddle because the hydrant was set beneath the level of the sidewalk. Once the water level was pretty high, it caught the attention of one person who went to a local pet store, bought a hundred gold fish and dropped them in.
They’ve been thriving ever since.

Locals are feeding the gold fish multiple times a day. People are coming from around the city to see them. They turned a NYC puddle into a goldfish bowl and it’s gone viral. And let’s be honest here… Most NY’ers need a really, really good reason to visit Bed-Stuy.
Problem is, New York City doesn’t like the idea of wasting the water. They’ve sent crews to shut the water off a bunch of times, but the locals keep turning the water back on to fill up the little pool at the base of the fire hydrant.
So, what’s a gold fish in a big city to do? Wouldn’t be surprised if a few get eaten by a hungry bird or a New York City rat. A few have indeed gone missing, possibly adopted by a passerby. Someone even set up a GoFundMe to try to get the thing to be permanent, but… um… hello? Winter?
The city put out a statement saying, “We love goldfish also, but we know there is a better home for them than on a sidewalk.”
