FidoAlert Is A Free Amber Alert Service For Lost Pets
A recently developed free program has been announced that claims to be a free lost pet alert network. The network is called FidoAlert and it aims to create a national database of participants who will help find your registered pet if they get lost. It’s like an amber alert service for lost pets. They claim that their network will help return pets to owners faster.
When Pets Go Missing
Can you guess the one day of the year when most people think your pet is most likely to go missing? It’s coming up on the calendar. Most of us love this particular day because it usually involves family, friends, cookouts and celebrations. But your dog hates this day because it ends with fireworks. Most dogs that I know hate the sound of fireworks. It scares the you-know-what out of them. So much so that I’ve come to not like them myself, just for the puppies’ sake.
Yep, most people would think that July 4 is the day that most dogs run away from their home, but according to statistics only 1 in 5 lost pups were reported missing on July 5th or due to the noise of fireworks. The link I just provided includes information about an app from the ASPCA, but this new FidoAlert sounds like a more connected universe of pet owners keeping an eye out for each other.
How FidoAlert Works
According to FidoAlert it’s free to sign up for this lost dog program. Once you register your pet with it’s info, picture and owner info, your pet will receive an ID to hang from their collar. The ID has their registered number and a QR code. If your dog goes missing and is found, anyone can scan the QR code to report they’ve found your pup.
If your dog goes missing you can activate the system which will text everyone who is in the system within a few miles. The message will include your pet’s info and the picture you uploaded so that people can keep an eye out for ’em.
How can this be free?
Almost everything in life comes with a catch, right? If you’re like me, you’re wondering how this service can be free? Mailing the ID tag, text messaging platforms, app maintenance and security all cost money. So, how can this alert service for lost pets be free? According to the website:
We are funding this service by using revenue generated by our parent company, and completely separate core business, PetScreening. Our Founder & CEO had a long-term vision to create the first nationwide text-enabled lost and found pet alert system that would be no-cost whatsoever to any pet owner.

Seems legit and might just return your pup a lot faster than relying on flyers stapled to telephone poles. WRAT recently hosted our annual dog adoption event called, “Bark In The Park”. Have a peek at the event in the pictures below, and remember most shore towns don’t let dogs on the boardwalk.
