Sears, Roebuck and Co. estimated first-quarter profits would beat the Wall Street consensus forecast by more than 50 percent as savings from job cuts and other restructuring activities increased earnings at its retail business locations. In October 2001, Sears announced a broad three-year restructuring plan for its 860 department stores, which included cutting 4,900 salaried jobs, trimming unprofitable product lines and overhauling its apparel business. Fifty of the stores will be totally remodeled, while about 400 others will be fitted with centralized check-out stations. (Photo by Tim Boyle/Getty Images)
I'm sure Rat Rockers we have all passed this lovely, and family-owned and operated local business before. It was right on Route 34 in Colts Neck New Jersey. They have announced after 50 long hard-working years they will close their doors for the last time in April. It's always sad to see a local business go.
I know over the years of me working at the Rat they have stepped up and made a lot of stuff come our way to make sure it went your way as far as prizes. That's right they have done a lot of major giveaways with us. If I recall we had the Rat's Ultimate Garage that they gave us a bunch of stuff to add to it.
The owner Art Becker has stated they so much has changed dramatically in recent years and it's creating new challenges. It turns out he nor his sons were interested in the hands-on personal service that has been what the Becker family is all about for four generations.
Over the years I know so many people that were regular customers over there and I'm sure the Becker family and staff will truly miss all of you that shopped there for your supplies. It is always hard on a family when you have a business and then have to shut its doors. If you ask me 50 years going strong to help literally build a community and make people's houses, jobs, work sites whatever you need to be done they were there to help.
So to Becker Hardware here at the Rat, we salute you on 50 years strong and we wish you and the Becker family the best of luck in your future, God Bless. Thank you for reading this post and always thank you for rocking out with 95.9 The Rat- Gotts
