Shell Station Comes To Silverton!
Well it looks as if the rumors of a Citgo coming to the gas station occupied by Speedway have been dashed. It looks like it was all just a Shell game…Literally!
As previously reported, the changeover appears to be happening quickly, as Shell signs are already starting to go up on the now closed former Speedway. If previously mentioned rumors do turn out to be true, the turnover should not take very long at all.
I had been told be two attendants at separate times last week that the station was destined to become a Citgo gas station with a Kosher convenience store.
Well at least half of that part of the rumor has proven to be false as these photos clearly show.
Personally I like Shell.
They have been one of my go to gas stations for many years. I occasionally visit the one on the corner of Indian Head Road and Route 9 in Toms River. Furthermore, Shell was our station of choice back in the 70s and 80s when I was growing up in Bergen County. I feel it’s a real piece of Americana. However, it always comes down to price and quality. Assuming the gas is of proper quality, then this particular station must hope that Shell keeps prices competitive with other local shops in the area, such as Exxon, Lukoil, and of course Wawa.
As for the convenience store, well time will tell, and the future is just days away, hopefully.
Meanwhile, whether it be Kosher or not is not my concern, but lottery, snacks and the occasional ice cold sugar free Red Bull is. Hopefully the new Shell convenience store will be as much as a service to the Silverton area as it was under the Speedway monker. Until it’s not, all I can say is “Welcome to Silverton, what’s one more shell on the beach!”
