You heard that right, Rat Rock Nation. Ice Cream Nachos are now a thing thanks to a creative mom on Instagram! What are ice cream nachos? Ice cream nachos are something made in heaven and delivered upon a grateful nation... that's what they are.

How nobody came up with this idea before is kind of stunning. Because, who doesn't absolutely love nachos and who doesn't absolutely love ice cream? Before you begin thinking that this is come kind of awful mash up of seasoned ground beef and jalapeño's let's get this ice cream party started.

Ice Cream Nachos, The Reaction

Most people on the internet were all thumbs up on the idea, but there were a few naysayers. Most of the people who didn't think it was a good idea were talking smack that the whole thing would end up being a melted mess really quickly, especially on a hot day.

But, I'm not buying that "melt too fast" complaint. This complaint comes from people who can't handle a thermometer. If you plan correctly, which I assume the vast majority of adult America can, you ought to be able to properly mitigate the environmental temperature exchange between the delicious frozen treat and the outside air.

While we're on the topic, check out our list of ice cream shops in Ocean County below!

Happy National Ice Cream Day! I’m not sure why there’s a National Ice Cream Day in the middle of December when we have one in July.

The next one falls on July 21, 2024.

Thanks to President Reagan, we celebrate National Ice Cream Day every third Sunday in July.

According to National Today.com,  President Ronald Reagan wanted to commemorate a treat enjoyed by over 90 percent of the US population. In 1984, he decreed a day for ice cream, and his proclamation actually glorified the dairy industry in America.

In fact, Americans still lead the world when it comes to eating this frozen delight: 23 gallons a year to be precise. President Reagan also proclaimed July as National Ice Cream month, describing ice cream as ‘‘a nutritious and wholesome food enjoyed by over ninety percent of the people in the United States.

A whole month and an extra day during the year here in the United States to celebrate this incredible frozen treat.

It’s almost Summer in Australia, I hope they have at least one day to celebrate ice cream.

What’s not to love about something made with cream, butter fat, milk, and sugar? Then of course those extra fabulous ingredients that flavor this favorite frozen dessert.

I’m a chocolate girl myself. My sister always liked vanilla and pistachio, my 2 least favorite flavors.

I tried making a Baked Alaska once, but it flopped. Never again.

A Baked Alaska consists of your favorite ice cream flavor layered between a slice of sponge cake and a covering of meringue that is browned in either an oven at high heat or by a butane culinary torch.

Baked Alaska is really just a fancy dessert created to impress your guests. I’d rather have an ooey gooey ice cream sundae with my favorite toppings, hot fudge, and a choice of sauces, like marshmallow.

To celebrate National Ice Cream Day, we’re going to give you a few places in Ocean County to enjoy some of the best ice cream in the area. Even if it is December.

Sundaes The Ice Cream Place - 324 NJ-166, Toms River, NJ 08753

Mrs. Walker's Ice Cream Parlor - 908 Fischer Blvd, Toms River, NJ 08753 & 132 S Main St, Forked River, NJ 08731

This incredible ice cream is homemade, and there are so many flavors to choose from. Last time I hit up Mrs. Walker's, I got a combo cup of salted caramel & chocolate peanut butter. Anything with peanut butter is good with me.

I always took notice that kids especially, want to go to this family friendly ice cream shop. I think it's the name, and in the case of the Toms River location, it's the shape of the building with the horsey on the front. The Silverton area location is open year round, while the Brick location closes near the end of October. They have a great selection of flavors and a ton of fans for almost 30 years.

Aunt Bea's Ice Cream - 1909 Long Beach Blvd, Surf City, NJ 08008

For our Southern Ocean County friends listening to the WRAT on 107.9, Aunt Bea's is a gem of a place. The name alone gives a family feel and a place where everyone is welcome. If you're a vegan, then you'll hit the jackpot at Aunt Bea's. They offer a few flavor options of vegan ice cream flavors. Great service and a good selection of flavors.

Point Creamery - 2842 3014 NJ-88, Point Pleasant, NJ 08742

Homemade creamy goodness is how most people describe Point Creamery! Vegan friends, you'll be happy  to know that you're not forgotten. It's a chocolate peanut butter swirl & Almond Joy cup for me.

Miss Mindy's Homemade Ice Cream - 155 Atlantic City Blvd, Bayville, NJ 08721

There was a Miss Mindy at my nursery school, so the name reminds of my childhood. I love that Miss Mindy's offers Doggie Cups and vegan options. Definitely not run of the mill flavors. They have  lavender honey ice cream along with ginger lemon basil. Plus my favorites, carrot cake and chocolate peanut butter. A lovely staff and fantastic homemade ice cream.
