One Of The Best Breakfasts In Ocean County Is At This Cozy Restaurant
Talk about one of the best breakfasts you’ll ever have in Ocean County! I have written about this place several times over the years based on my own experience along with dozens of recommendations from locals. I needed my husband to finally experience this place.
Yesterday, after we attended WRAT & WJRZ’s annual Bark In The Park event at Shore Town Ballpark in Lakewood, I suggested we go grab a hearty breakfast. Bruce suggested our usual spots and I suggested taking him to a place I know he’s never been but has driven past a million times.
That place is Sandy’s Cozy Corner. I haven’t been here in quite some time, and I thought it was about time Bruce experienced this great hometown hidden gem on Route 70 in Lakehurst.
I love this place. You’d swear your mother or grandmother was in the kitchen making you a hearty meal. This place is homey and cozy, as the name reflects. Dino C. said it best in his review: “Sandys is my absolute favorite place to have breakfast!! Service is always fantastic. The food comes out fresh and hot and is absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection! I have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed! A+!”
Dino hits the nail on the head and so does the description on Sandy’s menu.
It reads: When longtime waitress, Sandy Dreyer, decided to open Sandy’s Cozy Corner in 1999, she knew she was on to something really special. Anchored in the close-knit community of Lakehurst, Sandy’s is a place where all are welcome. Rustic and unpretentious, our cozy interior invites you to nestle in and enjoy your comfort food favorites amongst friends. From fried chicken to biscuits and gravy, our savory line-up of classics will have your taste buds celebrating. Stop by for breakfast or lunch anytime — there’s always something delicious waiting for you here.
Now you know why Sandy’s has been around long enough to celebrate 25 years of serving our fine community.
I ran into Larry “King” Domin and his “Queen” Sue while we waited for our table. Larry moved down here a few years ago from North Jersey and absolutely loves living in Ocean County. He comes to Sandy’s on a regular basis.
Our review starts with the warm welcome Bruce & I received from Sandy when we walked in the door. She asked us if we wanted a table or a booth. A booth it is, but there was a 5-minute wait. That’s never a problem. We were seated in less than 5 minutes.
I would liken this place to a smaller version of Cracker Barrel, but better. You immediately get a homey; cozy feel the minute you step inside. There’s also a little area to purchase gifts. They also have a lunch counter where I spied a few older gentlemen enjoying their breakfasts and chatting away with one another.
The menu is filled with comfort food like Sandy’s homemade chicken pot pie and her famous homemade sausage gravy. They are both for sale to take home. Sandy sells pints of her sausage gravy for $6.95, and a quart will run you $10.95. You can even purchase the flaky biscuits to go with that perfectly seasoned gravy for $2.00 each. Her biscuits are a must have!
I also love that they have scrapple on the menu. I remember loving scrapple as a teenager.
I didn’t order it this time. I ordered a Swiss cheese omelette, with home fries with onions added, rye toast, and a side of their delicious fat sausage links. Bruce ordered a Lox, eggs, and onions omelette, with home fries, whole wheat toast, and a side of those yummy sausage links. We both started with coffee, which was excellent. Freshly brewed and served to us by a friendly woman. I think her name was Teresa. I usually ask, but I failed to do that this time.
Our meals came out quickly, piping hot and delicious. Bruce is now in love with Sandy’s Cozy Corner.
The thing that truly makes this place besides the comforting food choices, is the atmosphere. You feel very welcome when you walk through the door, and the layout is so charming.
Congratulations to Sandy and her crew on 25 years of keeping your patrons and friends happy and well fed. You really make a difference in our community with your bright spirit and great comfort food. Thank you!
