What Should Replace Roxy’s Bar And Grill In Silverton?
The print barely dried on the eviction notice posted at the glass door entrance to Roxy’s bar and grill, at 11 Kettle Creek Road in the Silverton section of Toms River, when the questions began.
What’s next? It’s a question I asked here just over a year ago while the then Charlie Brown’s stood idol since the pandemic. Now, here we are back to square one. The fine folks of Silverton wondering what will become of the now-shuttered Roxy’s bar and grill.
Everyone has an opinion on what the old Roxy’s should be next!
From chain restaurants to catering halls, a try at another local tavern, and more, I have heard a bunch from friends and neighbors on what they hope, or in some cases fear the former Roxy’s will turn into next. The property at 11 Kettle Creek Road is quite large so, for a restaurant to make it, they have to bring in a good amount of revenue daily. One would think this model might fail again like it did with Roxy’s. However what about a chain establishment that had some money to burn and back a franchisee until they can get established? Something Roxy’s was unable to do in their mere 8 months open.
Of course with the words “chain restaurant” comes the phrase usually heard before it: “Not another..” . In our little neck of the woods we have, for the most part, been able to avoid a large chain establishment moving in. Sure, Silverton has what every neighborhood has when it comes to chain eateries. The McDonald’s, Dunkin, Jersey Mike’s, and even a Manhattan Bagel. So would a chain sit-down restaurant with a bar really be a big deal?
Another thought I have heard is a very interesting one. That is, open a legalized betting sports pub. Maybe a franchise with the Draft Kings or Fan Duel moniker. One thing is for sure it would be a money maker. Legalized gambling is huge as you know here in New Jersey. The former Roxy’s locale has the size, and with multiple rooms, their could be separation for different events going on at the same time. Heck throw in a cigar/marijuana lounge, and now we may be on to something!
Other ideas include a catering hall, a drive-through fast food joint, and even a preschool. As for me, I really like the Betting Sports Bar idea. I think it would be fun, and different, draw all different age groups, and generate a lot of money for the community. Other than that? Get me a damn In And Out Burger in there!!
