Those girls sell a lot of cookies!
According to Wikipedia, today over one million Scouts in America sell over 200 million packages of cookies, raising over 800 million dollars. That’s some serious cash!
Meanwhile, Thin Mints are by far the most popular of the Girl Scout Cookie varieties. Thin Mints currently make up about 25 percent of total cookie sales. Next are the Samoas, or Caramel Delights, depending on which bakery they are produced in. No matter the name, they are the same cookie. Samoas make up about 19 percent of sales. From there Dosi Dos, or Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies make up about 16 percent, while my childhood favorite, the Tagalongs Peanut Butter Patties make up about 13 percent.
Newer varieties have popped up over recent years.
Over the last few years, we have been blessed with some new varieties on the delicious Girl Scout Cookie landscape. I get it, some folks like the tried and true shortbread Trefoils, and I respect that. However, for those adventurous enough, here are some recent additions over the past few years. Lemon-Ups burst onto the scene during Covid back in 2020. Described as crispy lemon cookies with a layer of glaze on one side. Another exciting edition recently has been the Toast-Yay – a French toast-inspired cookie dipped in icing. Furthermore, Adventurfuls are brownie-inspired cookies topped with caramel-flavored cream, with a small amount of sea salt…Yum!
Finally, the Raspberry Rally cookie is a thin, crispy cookie, infused with raspberry flavor, and dipped in a chocolatey coating. Apparently, this offering is only available online. Moreover, if you prefer a gluten-free cookie for your Celiac belly, you should try the GF Toffee Tastic, or Caramel Chocolate Chip cookies out.
