Silverton: Where To Go On Saint Patrick’s Day
Tis the season of the wearin’ o the green, and the Silverton section of Toms River is no exception. This Sunday is Saint Patrick’s Day, and the Silverton bars and pubs in the area are all hosting some sort of Irish festivities. After all, on Saint Patrick’s Day, everyone is Irish! Besides, it’s a great opportunity for a local bar or restaurant to make some extra money with would be revelers, who wish to raise a pint or three. Meanwhile, others, whether they be of Irish descent or not, must have their traditional Irish fare on the big day. There will be no shortage of corned beef and cabbage sales on Sunday, throughout the Jersey Shore, and Silverton is no exception.
So let’s see what’s happening at some local establishments this St Patty’s Day. My suggestion is to hit all of them for a spell, and then make an “Irish Exit”!
Do You Like Bagpipes?
It’s a fair question. Furthermore, it’s a necessary one on Saint Patrick’s Day. Many folks seek it out. While others run from it. My daughter is one of those people. Since she was a kid, she has HATED pipers. I can only assume my half-Irish genes only “nicked her”, as Shane Gillis would say. Anyway, I enjoy a good group of half-baked Irishmen, barging their way into a bar of unsuspecting drinkers, to serenade them at close range. Listen, Christmas has carolers, and St. Patty’s has Pipers. Here’s where you can find some Sunday afternoons.
Mac’s Pub. 1747 Hooper Avenue, Toms River
The doors open at noon at Mac’s Pub for traditionally one of the biggest Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations in town. New owners and the name change from McIntyre’s not withstanding, the green beer and Irish specials will be flowing better than ever, with the pipers showing up in the late afternoon. Be prepared if you go, it’s going to be packed inside and out. Plus it gets nice and loud when the pipers start blowing in their bags. Unlike my kid, I love it!
Maybe you just want an all out, all day party?
If multiple bands, food, and open to close fun on St Pat’s is what you are gearing up for. you may want to hit up Riv’s Toms River Hub on Sunday. 1850 Hooper Avenue Toms River.
Besides Irish specials to go along with their great menu, Rivs has live music scheduled from pretty much open til close. With the likes of Queens Boulevard performing at 1, interspersed with bagpipers throughout the day beginning at 1:30. Plus, the one and only Shorty Long and the Jersey Horns at 6pm.
In the end, my advice is to hit em all hard on Sunday, like a stale soda bread with a sheleighleigh.
