Rachel Ziegler To Star In Movie Filming In New Jersey
New Jersey native Rachel Ziegler will be starring in a movie that is being filmed in her home state. Ziegler is set to star in Y2K, a movie about New Year’s Eve 1999. The actor herself was born in 2001.
Y2K has been in production in recent days at the Clark Recreation Center, the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission told NJ.com.
Zegler, who just celebrated her 22nd birthday, was born in Hackensack and grew up in Clifton. She made her film debut as Maria in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 film West Side Story. She received a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture for her performance. The then 20-year-old beat out Emma Stone (Cruella), Marion Cotillard (Anette), Alana Haim (Licorice Pizza), and Jennifer Lawrence in (Don’t Look Up). That film also had some New Jersey roots as it was filmed in Paterson in 2019.

Y2K will be directed by Saturday Night Live alum Kyle Mooney. This will be Mooney’s directorial debut. The A24 disaster comedy is described as, “two high school nobodies decide to crash the last big party before the new millennium. The film will also star Jaeden Martell, Julian Dennison, Daniel Zolghadri, Alicia Silverstone, Tim Heidecker, and more.
Since West Side Story, Zegler’s career has not skipped a beat. Her most recent film role was Anthea in DC’s Shazam! sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The film also starred Grace Caroline Currey, Marta Milans, Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Lucy Liu, and Meagan Good.
Besides Y2K, whose approximate release date has yet to be determined, Zegler will star as Lucy Gray Baird in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, due in November.
Additionally, the actress will play Snow White Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of the animated film. She will play opposite Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.
