Good morning, Sports fans!  Davey Mac here with a plus-sized Sports Report for ya on a Tuesday!  The Yankees stay hot with an impressive win!  Hockey matchups for tonight!  The Jets pick up a solid defensive player!  NBA action this evening!  But first…

…Let’s start with college basketball…where the UCONN Huskies won the men’s NCAA Tournament for a second straight season with a 75 to 60 win over Purdue last night.  Jersey City’s Dan Hurley won the National Title again as UCONN becomes just the fourth team in March Madness history to win back-to-back championships (UCLA, Duke, and Florida are the others).

UCONN’s Tristen Newton was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.  Newton had 20 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds for UCONN in the championship game and was an excellent presence throughout the tournament.

With the win, UCONN is also one of only four schools to win at least six national championships (North Carolina also has 6…Kentucky has 8…and UCLA has 11 titles).  UCONN was so dominant this year they beat their opponents by an average of 23.3 points.  Now THAT’S dominance!

All in all…Danny Hurley is the best college coach in the sport right now…and UCONN is the best program.  The former guard from St. Antony’s in Jersey City and Seton Hall has come a long way…he is the best coach in the game…congrats, Coach Hurley!  I’m Davey Mac…now on to the rest of the Sports Report!

  • NBA Tonight

    Now over to the NBA…where we had no games last night due to the College Championship…but tonight the Knicks take on the Bulls in Chicago.  The Knicks, at 46 and 32, are 4th in the Eastern Conference.

    The 76’ers go against the Pistons in Philly.  The Sixers are 44 and 35 (7th in the East).

    The Nets are off.  They play the Raptors tomorrow.  The Nets have been eliminated from playoff contention by being 11th in the East with no mathematical chance of getting into the top ten.

  • MLB Recap

    Over to baseball.  Where the Yankees stayed hot with a nice 7 to nothing victory over the Marlins last night.  Nestor Cortes was excellent on the mound…throwing eight shutout innings to receive the win.  Anthony Volpe and Juan Soto each hit three-run home runs for the Yanks in the win…as they continue to hit (Soto is hitting .357 and Volpe is batting .417).

    Miami Marlins v New York Yankees

    The Mets beat the Braves…8 to 7.  Brandon Nimmo slugged two home runs for the Mets in the victory.

    The Phillies defeated the Cardinals…5 to 3.  Brandon Marsh homered in the game for the Phils.

    Hockey.  The Devils, Rangers, and Flyers were all inactive last night.  Tonight the Devils face the Maple Leafs at the Prudential Center.

  • Jets Acquire Linebacker From Eagles

    The Jets have acquired linebacker Hasson Reddick from the Eagles.  Reddick had 11 sacks last year.  Reddick, who’s from South Jersey and attended Temple, has had double-digit sacks in each of the past four seasons.  Good pick up by the Jets.
