Bust out your finest kaftan and pearls. The Asbury Park chapter of The Mrs. Roper Romp is going out, with or without Stanley! Those are the exact words on the social media invite for anyone and everyone to attend the first ever Roper Romp Bar Crawl in Asbury Park.
The event is scheduled for Saturday April 6th from 2pm until 6pm. Meanwhile while details are still as sketchy as Jack, Janet, and Chrissy living together, one thing is clear. This promises to be a super fun event for all. In fact, according to the online invite, this is a full-costume, Mrs. Roper Bar Crawl that the New York Times describes as “a bunch of loud redheads nursing froufrou cocktails and cha-cha-ing around in platform wedges”. All Three’s Company characters are welcome.

That’s right, Roper Romp Bar Crawls are “a thing”! Furthermore, not only are they a thing, but they are wildly popular and are selling out all over the country!
Who Was Mrs. Roper?
For those who don’t have a clue who or what Mrs. Roper is, let’s have a little history lesson. Three’s Company was a long running, successful television show that ran from 1977 through 1984. When the show came out it was sort of groundbreaking. It’s the story of a single guy, Jack, who needed a place to live. His buddy found a couple in an apartment in his building in Southern California that were looking for a roommate. Two young, sexy, single gals.
What Could Go Wrong, Right?
Well, the landlord, that’s what. Mr. Stanley Roper, who’s fake moral compass was only outdone by his cheapness. Well the only way for Jack to get to be a roommate with the girls was to convince Stanley he was gay. Thus he did, for season after season. As far as Mrs. Roper goes, she was the sex starved liberal minded, Kaftan wearing wife of Stanley. She was a trip, even for the 70’s. Furthermore, as the decades have gone on, Helen, as she was known, has become as much of a cultural icon for her fashion as just about anyone from that era. Perhaps only the Three’s Company bar, the Regal Beagle has had more longevity over the years.

Sadly, according to her Wikipedia page, Audra Lindley who portrayed the fun loving Mrs. Roper, passed away in 1997 at the age of 79. I’m sure she could never have imagined that all these decades later, folks from all walks of life would be donning red wigs and long moo moo type dresses, and dancing around in the streets. Drinking and having a great time in the name of good old Mrs. Roper, as they come and knock on your door. However, her character, Mrs. Roper? Well, she would have loved it!
Meanwhile, details are still to follow for the Roper Romp in Asbury Park. However, keep the date in the front pocket of your Kaftan or under your wig! All info can be found here.
