REVIEW: The Mongolian Hu & Their Amazing Album ‘The Gereg’
“East Side” Dave of the Morning Rat Race here. Have you heard The Hu yet on the RAT? If not…I ask you…what are you doing with your life?!
The Hu is a rock band from Mongolia and their album, The Gereg, is AMAZING. Released in 2019, it is one of the coolest records that I’ve heard in years. The Hu combines traditional Mongolian music and instruments with modern-day rock…and this fusion is highly successful.
“Wolf Totem” is their big single. They made an English-speaking version of the song (with Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach) for Western rock fans…however I also strongly urge you to check out “Wolf Totem” in its original version. It’s AWESOME.
Other highlights of the album are the almost-Pogues-sounding “The Legend Of Mother Swan”, the riff-heavy “Yuve Yuve Yu”, and the pounding and epic “The Gereg”. In all honesty, the entire record is fantastic.
There are two versions of the album available; a standard version and a bonus version (the bonus is the one that features the Jacoby Shaddix appearance).
Check out some cool videos below! And long live The Hu!
