New Jersey Parents Left Kids In The Car To Go Wine Tasting
According to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office a set of parents left their kids in the car to go wine tasting at a New Jersey winery. The charges were made on April 25th after the kids were observed alone in the winery parking lot back in February,
The incident happened at the Four Sisters Winery in Belvidere, New Jersey. Four Sisters claims to be one of the state’s oldest wineries. The release from the prosecutor spelled it out clearly, the suspects left their kids in the car to go wine tasting. The children in question were just two and three years old.
The accused are John O’Mahoney and Radhika Vyas of Phillipsburg. Each were hit with cruelty and neglect charges, a crime of the fourth degree. If found guilty of the charges they both face 18 months in state prison. Of course, the prosecutors note that the pair are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
Staff at the Four Sisters winery reported the incident after at least one of them witnessed the two toddlers in the couple’s vehicle. The staff decided that they should call 911 but the couple finished their wine tasting before the police arrived. The two and three year old children were left in the car for a total of 20 minutes. A description of the car and license plate led the police investigation to the couple’s residence. The police who arrived at the residence later that day observed the children to be unharmed. The incident occurred on Sunday, February 25th, 2024.
“The Warren County Prosecutors Office would like to remind everyone that it’s not acceptable for anyone to leave children in a car unattended and that doing so for even a short period of time can result in tragic consequences.”
