Something Is Up With House Of Independents In Asbury Park
What’s up with House of Independents in Asbury Park? As you probably know, the venue on Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park closed due to flooding damage incurred in a freak rain storm in the Fall of 2023. Before closing, the House of Independents was a Jersey shore favorite for independent rock, metal, and indie bands, fun DJ theme nights, album release parties and so much more. They closed due to rain storm. But there’s been activity recently.
Changes at House of Independents
This might be a new venture beginning to reveal itself because on Wednesday, April 10th at about noon… The House of Independents updated their social media page to look like this:
The message seems pretty clear. 2.0 is a clear reference to a relaunch of the venue as concert venue and an entertainment spot. And I don’t think there’s any way to interpret “see you in the summer” as anything but a tease of a relaunch of the venue.
Why Did House of Independents And Others Close?
In September of 2023, a really big Nor’Easter decided to drop tons of rain right on top of Monmouth County. The hardest hit area was Asbury Park. A ridiculous amount of rain fell in a short period of time. There was localized flooding in all the nearby towns. But, the lake that separates Ocean Grove and Asbury Park went way beyond it’s banks.
As Wesley Lake grew bigger and bigger, more and more businesses in the direct area began to flood. Since House of Independents was much lower than Cookman Avenue, the venue filled with water and the damage was unsurmountable.
Other businesses in the are are still trying to reopen after experiencing the flooding. The Asbury Festhalle & Biergarten is another of the local businesses that still hasn’t opened, although the Biergarten never closed shop – they’ve continued to work on rebuilding to be able to reopen.
