Could New Gun Laws Be Coming?

New Jersey lawmakers are unveiling new legislation that aims to re-write the states current firearm carry laws. According to officials, the move comes following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in June that expands gun rights nationwide. There are several changes to the current state standard including banning permitted holders from carrying in schools, child care facilities and other public places such as bars, restaurants, airports and sports and entertainment venues. The legislation also requires permit holders to carry insurance to protect against the accidental firing of a gun. The legislation has not been voted upon yet.
Lucy the Elephant, a popular attraction in Margate, is set to finish a renovation project that has taken over a year to complete. The 8 month project is now in month 13 and is also reportedly one-million-dollars over its initial 1.4-million-dollar budget. Officials are pointing to several reasons why the project is behind schedule and over budget including, damaged wood, weather and flooding issues inside the structure. Removing the scaffolding will take roughly two weeks and an unveiling ceremony is set to take place in either November or December.
A previously convicted serial killer in New Jersey is indicted for a fourth murder. Khalil Wheeler-Weaver stands accused of strangling 15-year-old Mawa Doumbia, of Newark. The pattern of his crimes involve contacting the female victims through dating apps, arranging to meet, and then causing their demise. Last year, he claimed his innocence, adding he’d been set up, but Wheeler-Weaver is already serving a 160-year sentence for the murders of three other women, plus the attempted murder of another.
Heads up: official trick or treating in Toms River is October 30th again this year. This is because of the Toms River Fire Company Number 1 Halloween Parade on Halloween day, the 31st. Always fun.
