New Jersey’s First Exclusively Vegan Diner Is In Monmouth County And The Reviews Are Positive
I have friends, family members, acquaintances, and foodie friends who are vegan or partially vegan.
In fact, I went vegan for a short time a little over 10 years ago to see if it was a diet I could sustain. With the help of my friend Ron Platzer from Chicago, I was inspired to give it a go because it was working well for him.
Ron and his then wife Lindsay sent me the book, “Vegan Cooking For Dummies.” I was all about this challenge by working my way through a few of the local health food markets and grocery stores that carried the items I needed to make this adventure a successful one.
My niece hooked me up with her favorite recipe for Vegan Macaroni & Cheese that used nutritional yeast and raw cashews to create the sauce. It was actually pretty darn good for what it was. Let’s be honest though, it is absolutely no substitute for the real thing, let’s not kid ourselves. The ooey gooey cheese of authentic mac & cheese has no equal, but if you’re doing the vegan thing it works well.
A few months ago, a brand-new diner opened up down the road from the WRAT in Ocean Grove that is exclusively vegan.
The place is called, “Dale and Dollops” located at 69 Main Ave, Ocean Grove, NJ 07756. Serving healthy plant based comfort foods.
Some of my vegan and non-vegan friends have already tried the place and the reviews were all positive. The extra added bonus: Dale & Dollops’ décor takes you back to a time when things were simple.
A vibrant 50’s vibe with amazing vegan cuisine. They have a little movie theater too!
I checked out the menu and I am impressed. Vegan nachos, macaroni & cheese (I’ll bet they do it better than my version), onion rings, a variety of breakfast dishes, Buffalo bites, burgers, wraps, smoothies, and dairy free ice cream. They even have gluten free options, and the food is made fresh.
My new friend Marta raved about the peanut butter brownie sundae, saying that this place is clearly run by people who know how to make dairy free ice cream taste creamy and delicious.
I will eventually get down to Ocean Grove, which is one of my favorite towns, to try this place. How about you?
