Interview: Toms River Fire Fighters Celebrate 125 Years Of Service
Toms River Fire Company No. 1, these guys are dedicated to the community.
We were honored to be invited to help celebrate Toms River Fire Company No. 1’s recent 125th birthday celebration…
Carl Craft from the Morning Rat Race stopped in to say hi to the people who came out to join in the block party and to help emcee the event…
But, more importantly, Carl sat down with two of the long-time members of the department to talk about the dedication to community, the spirit of volunteerism, and what it means to be driven to constantly be willing to drop everything help people in need.
“I was amazed at how the guys talked about how the group is a family… and how they feel that it’s an honor to serve the community in this way. I decided that I should take some time to sit away from the noise of the celebration to ask some important questions”, said Craft. “And so that’s what I did.”

The two gentlemen in the video answering Carl’s questions are Carl Weingroff and his father Ron. Both have served in the Toms River Fire Company No. 1 for a long time… and they represent a real-life family who has dedicated their time to the Toms River community… Carl is currently 1st Lieutenant… father Ron is a former President of TRFD #1.
“What struck me about the members of the group are how involved they are… There’s a sense of dedication to their neighbors that seems to guide everything… Even during a simple block party, the community vibe was strong. But not just that, it’s how thankful they are. I can’t tell you how many times I was thanked… But it’s really us who should be thanking them.”
One thing is for sure, Ocean County and Toms River are lucky to have Toms River Fire Company No. 1.
