Get Your Grill On With These Jersey Shore Butchers This Your Holiday Weekend.
I love to watch the people who man the grill at every barbeque gathering I’m invited to. Most of the people behind the grill are men. Why is that?
The one cooking method I have yet to master is the backyard grill. Sure, I’ve manned a grill or 2 in my day, but I’m not as experienced as I’d like to be.
When it comes to what goes on the grill, I am the self-proclaimed mistress of meat.
I’m excellent at prepping meats, chicken, pork, and other proteins for the grill. Herbs, spices, and marinades are my specialty.
I like a list of options when it comes to shopping for meat. I used to rely solely on the local chain supermarkets to shop for meat, not anymore.
I rarely buy beef, poultry, and pork from the supermarket. Sometimes I purchase meats at the grocery store from the premium quality meat counter.
I can’t always afford the meats behind the high end glass case, but I try to buy the best quality meat I can without breaking the bank.
The one thing I will never buy at a chain supermarket is chicken breasts. I can’t remember the last time I bought any chicken products from a supermarket.
In the last few years, I found that supermarket chicken breasts are tasteless, tough, and woody in texture. It must be all those hormones and antibiotics.
When Livoti’s has a sale on thin sliced chicken cutlets, I load up, especially if it’s the Bell & Evans brand.
I have a list of butchers in rotation that I shop at depending on what I need.
For instance, Lenny’s Silverton Market on Hooper Ave in Toms River carries a variety of chicken sausage in a couple of flavor profiles I can’t find anywhere else. Overall, Lenny’s sells excellent quality meat and poultry.
Also, I think it’s about time I buy a new grill so I can host my own backyard barbeques. The old one was 10 years old and needed to be put out of it’s misery.
I am always seeing posts and photos from my foodie friends on social media showing off their grilled and smoked proteins with info on where they purchased their meat products. I usually inquire about the local places these meats are purchased from.
Now I have a solid list of butchers in both Monmouth and Ocean Counties, thanks to all the connections I’ve made over the years on social media. It’s time to share them with you.
